Game Report : Boy's Varsity Football

GAME REPORT:
Varsity Football
Sept. 8, 2017 vs. North Andover

School bells are ringing once again which means that football season is officially underway. Woburn High's most popular sport is back to playing under the Friday Night Lights for fans of all ages once a week throughout the fall sports season. Unfortunately, the Tanners season got off to a rough start last Friday in North Andover as they fell to a well put together Knights team, 31-21. North Andover was able to hold off a late surge by the Tanners, as they cut the lead down to three and were a fourth down stop away from potentially swinging the game. Fourth down stops were one of the main reasons that the Knights pulled away from the Tanners, even once breaking off a forty plus yard run on a fourth and two. It wasn’t all bad news in Woburn’s first game, though. Junior quarterback Ryan Qualey connected not once, not twice, but three times with Junior Wide Receiver Ty Parish. After quickly going down 7-0 before most fans had filed into their seats, the Tanners were at risk of a huge loss to open the season when senior Jacob Casey recovered a fumble to help the Tanners' defense get out of a possible lopsided affair. Despite the loss, Tanner fans are still optimistic about where the Tanners might go this season and are expected to turn out in a large quantity in a rivalry game against Burlington this upcoming Friday the 15th. Although it isn’t home, the Burlington game is one of the year's biggest and most competitive games every year and the hype for Friday night has already started. Make sure to be in Burlington Friday night and join the fans in cheering on their beloved Tanner football team.
